Grooming FAQs

What are the benefits of pet grooming?

Pet grooming offers a wide range of benefits for both your pet's health and well-being, as well as your own peace of mind.

1. Maintaining Healthy Skin and Coat: Regular grooming helps remove dirt, debris, and loose fur from your pet's coat. This not only keeps their fur looking clean and shiny but also promotes good skin health by preventing matting, tangling, and potential skin infections.

2. Reducing Shedding: Grooming can significantly reduce the amount of fur your pet sheds, which can help keep your home cleaner and reduce allergens in the environment.

3. Early Detection of Health Issues: During grooming sessions, groomers and pet owners can spot potential health issues such as lumps, skin irritations, or unusual growths. Catching these issues early can lead to more effective treatment.

4. Preventing Matting and Knots: Long-haired breeds are prone to matting and knots in their fur, which can be painful and uncomfortable. Regular grooming helps prevent these issues and makes the grooming process less stressful for your pet.

5. Controlling Parasites: Groomers can often detect and address issues like fleas or ticks during grooming, preventing these parasites from becoming a more significant problem for your pet.

6. Improving Comfort and Mobility: Trimming your pet's nails and keeping their paw pads clean can enhance their comfort and prevent issues with walking or running.

7. Reducing Stress: Regular grooming can help your pet become accustomed to being handled, making visits to places like the vet less stressful in the long run.

8. Improving Smell and Hygiene: Grooming includes cleaning your pet's ears, teeth, and anal glands, which helps maintain their overall hygiene and reduces unpleasant odors.

9. Aesthetics: Of course, grooming also keeps your pet looking their best, which can be especially important for show animals or simply for pet owners who take pride in their pet's appearance.

Overall, pet grooming is an essential aspect of responsible pet ownership, ensuring that your furry friend is healthy, happy, and comfortable. It not only enhances their quality of life but also contributes to the overall enjoyment of having a pet in your home.

How often should I groom my pet?

The frequency of grooming depends on the breed, size, and coat type of your pet. Typically, dogs and cats should be groomed every 4-12 weeks.

When should I bring my puppy in for their first groom?

The timing of your puppy's first grooming appointment can depend on several factors, including their breed, coat type, and individual needs. However we typically start grooming at 12 weeks old, after they have received the initial vaccinations. This ensures they are kept safe whilst around other animals.

In the meantime, you can start some basic grooming routines at home, such as brushing your puppy's fur and getting them used to being touched and handled. This will help prepare them for their first professional grooming session.

Remember that the goal of the first grooming session is not just to groom your puppy but also to introduce them to the grooming process gently. Gradually increasing the complexity and duration of grooming sessions will help your puppy become more comfortable with the experience over time.

For puppies under 8 months old, a groom with us will involve a shampoo, full body brush out, nail trimming, ear cleaning.

What services are included in pet grooming?

Pet grooming services often include bathing, brushing, haircuts, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression.

How long does a typical grooming session take?

A small-medium dog is approximately 1.5-2 hours
A large dog is 2-2.5 hours
An extra large breed like Samoyed, Bernese Mountain, Chow Chow is approximately 3 hours.

Do you sedate cats during grooming?

No, we don't sedate your pet. Our experienced groomers understand that cats can be sensitive creatures, and we've created a serene and soothing environment to ensure their comfort throughout the grooming process.
